8.2 David and Jasmine - Implications for ECE Voice Thread Post

Q At preschool, David, a Euro-American boy, was playing with blocks. Nearby, Jasmine, the daughter of immigrant Latino parents, took one of the blocks that the boy was not using and began to play with it. The boy reached over to grab the block and pushed Jasmine. The teacher reprimanded the injured, crying Jasmine, admonishing her not to take the other children’s toys. Jasmine’s mother happened to be looking through the window and was upset by the teacher’s response. Why? How could the teacher have been more responsive?

I think that the teacher could have been more responsive by ensuring that both David and Jasmine could have been brought together to sit with teacher. The teacher could have told them that it is important to share things of each other with each other so that there could be the development of friendship and not selfishness. The teacher could have explained to David and Jasmine that selfishness would lead David to be lonely without friends in future. Moreover, the teacher could have explained to David that Jasmine had taken the block with which David had not been playing.
